3/17/05 - EditMe Shifts Focus / Two New Features!

Due to increased resource utilization, the product that was to be released as EditMe 2.0 has proven inviable for our current hosting and pricing model. To make hosting the new product profitable, we would have to substantially raise our prices. Because we have a large and dedicated customer base that finds our low prices attractive, we have decided not to deploy the new 2.0 version at this time. We are considering future hosting of 2.0 with separate pricing, and/or licensed sales and support for customer-hosted 2.0 installations. There is no time-line established yet for either of these paths.

In the mean time, our development efforts will be redirected to porting features from the 2.0 product into the current product. This development will be performed in smaller incremental releases to provide timely improvements to our current customers, and will include the most requested features first.

To show that we mean it, this announcement is bundled with two new features that have already been added: a "Remember Me" checkbox on the Login form and improved Comment notifications. Comments are now included along with page edits in announcement messages instead of each comment initiating a separate email notification. Comments are also now listed on the Recent Changes page.

Watch this space for announcements of additional new features coming soon, including the ability to view differences between page versions, RSS, and more.

2/22/05 - EditMe 2.0 Launch Delayed

Due to unexpected technical difficulties, EditMe has postponed the launch of Version 2.0 until further integration testing can resolve the stability issues that have caused interuptions in service since Thursday. This was a difficult decision to make, but was necessary to maintain quality service for our customers. Watch this space for further details.

2/12/05 - EditMe Announces 2.0 Launch Date

The long awaited version 2.0 of EditMe's flagship hosted content management and collaboration software is scheduled to become publicly available on Saturday, February 19th, 2005. Along with the launch comes a completely new Account Management System to provide customer self-service for creating new sites, upgrading, canceling, and updating billing information. A newly redesigned www.EditMe.com web site will integrate the version 2.0 online help and customer Wiki, creating a central location for EditMe customers to go to.

During the upgrade, from approximately 9AM to 12PM EST, EditMe sites will experience brief period of downtime. A "Site down for Maintenance" message will be displayed in place of sites during this period. EditMe is committed to making the maintenance window as brief as possible.

After launch, all new customers will receive a version 2.0 site. Initially, only sites whose owners request an upgrade will be upgraded. To request the upgrade, site owners can email upgrade@editme.com with your site name. Over the next few months, all sites will eventually be upgraded. The upgrade does not significantly affect the look or operation of existing sites.

1/20/05 - EditMe 2.0 January 2005 Status Update

EditMe is still on track to launch version 2.0 in Q1 2005, but there is still much to be done. A new web-based account management system that will allow site owners to create new sites, upgrade/downgrade their existing sites, update billing information, and cancel sites is currently in testing. We hope to launch sometime in mid-February, but this date is not yet firm.

The impact of the upgrade will be minimized on current site owners by upgrading existing users' sites on request. Users who are happy with their current site will be able to continue on for now. This will allow us to focus initially on the users who are specifically interested in the 2.0 features. Of course, beta users will be offered the upgrade first. If you are interested in the upgrade, please do not submit a request until 2.0 has launched.

In the mean time, there is still work to be done in 2.0. We would greatly appreciate additional use of the beta sites and additional beta users, right up until launch. Keep posting bugs and feedback, it has been enormously helpful.

If you wish to participate in the beta test and are a current EditMe customer, email beta@editme.com. Be sure to include your name, current EditMe site address, and email address. Note that space is limited and not all requests may be granted.

12/20/2003 - Better features for Locked-Down Sites

After several requests from customers, and based on the number of EditMe sites that are "locked down" for members-only access, the "Access Denied" screen has been replaced with a Login form with a Registration link (if registration is enabled). Also, the Menu, Search, Index, and Recently Changed pages are now unavailable to public users if the site's default Page Security setting is "Registered View" or "Administrator View". Finally, the Login form now sends the user to the originally requested page after logging in.

11/28/2003 - Even More New Features, and a site redesign!

We just can't stop ourselves. Blog-style comments were added today. Now every page of your EditMe site can accept comments from people browsing your site. If you've checked the "Announcements" box in your User Preferences, you'll receive an email notification whenever a new comment is added.

Also, you can now "move" or rename a page using the Rename link under the Page group in the site toolbar. This feature is particularly useful for bloggers who want the default "Home" page to be their most current blog entry.

Finally, check us out! EditMe has a new look. The burger man has been exiled to the public wiki, and we've gone cool grey and blue. Let us know what you think!

11/23/2003 - New Tool Menu and Email Notifications

Email Notifications now allow Administrators and Registered Users to receive email notifications when their site is updated. Just log in to your site and click the Preferences link at the bottom of the Tools menu.
