EditMe is proud to announce Update 17 of its flagship hosted web site solution! Along with several small bug fixes and enhancements, the following major new features are included.
All New Rich Text Editor
A completely new Rich Text Editor has replaced the old editor. The new editor provides a much more consistent and stable editing environment. New features include a Word Cleaner for improved support of content pasted from Word, a Preview button, a dropdown of all the styles you've defined in your site's stylesheet, and an automatic HTML scrubber to clean "bad" HTML that gets into the editor.
Note to existing customers: Because the scrubber might remove some formatting of content entered into the old editor, it is disabled by default for all existing sites. The automatic scrubber can be activated in the General Settings section of Site Settings, but users are warned that formatting of content entered into the old editor may be changed by the new scrubber.
Redesigned Administration Tools
The administration tools, or Settings, have been updated to use a clean and simple layout. This allows access to the Settings tools even if some rogue HTML has "broken" your site, or if your custom layout (see below) doesn't work with the Settings screens.
XSL Layout Management
Perhaps the most significant feature is the added ability for site admistrators to fully control the layout of their site. The "layout" refers to all the content around individual page content, including the placement and formatting of the menu content, tools menu, comment and attachments list, page title and footer. Site adminsitrators who are comfortable editing XSL stylesheets and HTML will find this to be a powerful tool. For everyone else, this feature is the foundation to a "Skins" feature that will package both Stylesheets and Layouts into a collection of new and compelling designs provided by EditMe that users can apply to their sites with a click of a button. Watch for this feature coming in the next release!
Improved Stylesheet Management
The Styles tool in Site Settings has been improved to support saved versions of multiple stylesheets. Use this to play with different stylesheets, and save stylesheets you don't want to lose when trying something new.
Optional Plain Text Editing
The Editing screen now has a "Plain Text" checkbox. Setting this option for a page allows the content to be edited as plain text - without the rich text editor. This feature is useful for creation of page content that isn't supported by the rich text editor, such as Javascripts, IFRAMES, Google Ads, etc. You can then use the Page Include feature (below) to include a plain text page into a rich text edited page.
Page Includes
You can now include the content of one page into another page using this syntax: [[include:IncludeThisPage]] - where IncludeThisPage is the name of a page you want to include. When you enter this into page content and save, the contents of the included page will appear in place of the bracketed include directive. This is especially useful for including plain text content, such as Javascripts, Google Ads, and content that uses an IFRAME.
