January2004 Update

Subject: EditMe Update - January 2004
===========================
EditMe Version 1.4 Launches
EditMe welcomes in the new year with some frequently requested features.
These features are now live, and mark EditMe Version 1.4. This will be
the last major update before development on Version 2.0 commences. See
below for 2.0 details.
=========================
New Cross Platform Editor
EditMe now uses a cross-platform editor that works in both Internet
Explorer 5.5 or greater and Mozilla 1.4 or greater. Mozilla runs on
Windows, Linux, and Macintosh, making EditMe a truly cross-platform
tool!
Other exciting features of the new editor include full screen mode and
font controls. You can click the Enlarge Editor button to open the
editor in a new window which can be resized and even maximized to fill
your screen. Font controls now allow editors to specify the font and
size of selected text.
===================================
EditMe Support Online Ticket System
Support requests should now be sent to the new online ticket system.
Hosted at http://support.editme.com/cgi-bin/pdesk.cgi, the ticket system
will allow EditMe support staff to track support requests through
completion. This system replaces the use of the support@editme.com email
address. The ticket system requires registration with a user name,
password, email address, and your EditMe site name.
==========================================
Change Show/Hide EditMe Tools Menu Default
Users who wish to hide the EditMe Tools menu by default when new
visitors arrive at their site can now do so in Site Settings. This
feature is useful for EditMe sites that are read-only for most of the
people visiting. To change the default setting (which is to show the
menu), log in as an administrator, click Settings in the tools menu, and
select the General section.
========================
Session Time-out Warning
If you've ever had your login session time out while editing a page,
you've experienced the frustration of losing your work. EditMe login
sessions time out after 30 minutes of inactivity. EditMe considers
typing in the editor without saving inactivity, so a long editing
session can be lost when you try to save your changes but no longer have
access because your login session has timed out. The editor will now pop-
up a warning message 5 minutes before your session will time out. If you
see this warning, save your work and then continue to make further
edits. If you fail to save within 5 minutes, you will lose your work!
==============
Printable Help
If you prefer to read on printed hard copy, the EditMe User's Guide is
now available in Microsoft Word and PDF formats. See
http://help.editme.com to download.
======================
Promote & Demote Users
Registered Users can now be promoted to Administrators, and vice versa,
in the Site Settings: Users tool.
===============================
Publish a Calendar on Your Site
A calendar template is now available at
http://wiki.editme.com/WikiCalendar. Check it out!
=======================
Version 2.0 Development
The focus of EditMe staff will now turn to development of version 2.0.
Planned features include full-screen template control, macros, forms and
surveys, and a lower-cost single site license version. Some features may
be released earlier than others, but final 2.0 release is currently
scheduled for Summer 2004.
