EditMe Official Blog2008-02-05
Lots of people ask why there isn't a master list of all EditMe sites. Our typical response is that most EditMe sites are private. In other words, even if they aren't password protected or store sensitive information, they may be intended for a select group of people rather than the general public. That said, we run some lists behind the scenes that we find interesting, and thought it might be fun to share one with our customers.
For today, we've compiled a list of the 10 biggest public-facing EditMe sites. Public-facing can be a bit tricky to define. While many sites display information without a login, it's clear that some are intended for a select group of invited users. For example, some of these are classroom sites. Linking the site up publicly will get it indexed by search engines and could result in a significant increase of bandwidth utilization for the customer's site. So we have to be careful.
So here are the 10 biggest sites (determined by unique page count) that are public-facing, and the number of active pages for each. Just for perspective, private sites are given their due, but not named. 27 sites are listed in all to get to the 10th largest public-facing site. We've only linked the names for sites that have already been listed on our EditMe Sites wiki page.

This post is in part a test for interest in a more public account of site activity. If you think maintaining lists such as this on our web site is a good idea, or if you think it's a terrible idea, let us know!
