Blogosphere: EditMe is a Wiki with Teeth
2008-07-25
Boston-area interactive marketing blogger Matthew Mamet recently featured EditMe in a blog post about wikis. He touches on the unique power of EditMe's JavaScript API...
Having full CRUD access over all data and wiki functionality really makes a difference. It’s possible to build permission based content authoring tools all the way up to a full fledged CMS right within your personal wiki. EditMe has been able to pull off integration of this powerful API within a “normal” wiki environment. You don’t have to take advantage of it if you don’t want to. The familiar wiki content editing rules apply. However, with access to the API at every price level - you’re getting a powerful toolset at any price." Read the full post...
Staff Lounge: Follow EditMe on Twitter
2008-07-21
I've created a Twitter account to track EditMe events that occur between these blog posts. The Twitter posts will contain announcements, development status
updates, minor maintenance updates, tips and other information that
customers may find useful but that don't necessarily call for a post
here. If you have a Twitter account, I encourage you to follow along.
Don't worry, you won't get notified about what I'm having for dinner. Read the full post...
Staff Lounge: A Survey of Custom Development Projects
2008-07-15
A few prospective customers have asked what kind of projects
EditMe's Custom Development team has done. It's a good question, and
one that I thought warranted an answer on the web site. Here are a few
of the more interesting projects we've completed within the past
several months, grouped by project size.

Tip of the Knows: Fun with Favicons, RSS and Edit Buttons
2008-06-30
Web sites can display an increasing variety of icons in a browser's address bar by including special tags in the HEAD area of the HTML document. You may have noticed that the main EditMe sites have light bulb favicons. A favicon is an icon image associated with a web site. Almost all modern browsers will display your favicon in the toolbar or favorites/bookmarks menu. It's an easy and effective way to add branding and visual appeal to your site. You may also notice that this site displays an RSS icon in the toolbar (or elsewhere, depending on your browser). You can link to your site's built in RSS feed to display such an icon for visitors and encourage them to subscribe to the site's feed. And just for wikis, a new "Edit This Page" icon is gaining traction. This article shows you how to add all three of these to your EditMe site. Read the full post...
Product Release: Site Export Module
2008-06-24
A new module was released today that allows site administrators to easily export the content from their site for archival and/or off-line browsing purposes. Until now, EditMe has provided a MySQL/Zip backup for download from sites on a Professional or better plan. That mechanism is considered a premium service because of the need to essentially store a second copy of the site on our servers. For browsable backups of the site, we've pointed users to HTTrack, an open source application designed to create off-line copies of web sites. The power and complexity of HTTrack can be daunting, and so many customers have requested something simpler. We're glad to finally heed that request. Read the full post...
Case Study: Harris Stratex Networks, Inc.
2008-06-19
A new case study released today highlights a custom development project for Harris Stratex Networks' corporate wiki network. As the case study explains, this customer wanted their employees to be able to enter all the product wiki
sites using one login and password on one centralized page. And, as the
network would become widely used throughout the company, they needed to
maintain their corporate design standards. That's where EditMe's
customization crew came in. EditMe worked with Harris Stratex Networks
to create a "master" page that linked wikis for different Harris
Stratex products. All the wikis use the same database of user names and
IDs. EditMe also adapted the company's existing corporate CSS template,
giving the entire network a cohesive look and feel. Read the full post...

Product Release: Widgets and User Pages
2008-05-21There are two new Modules available today: Widgets and User Pages. The Widgets module provides a set of tools to ease the task of importing HTML and JavaScript widgets from other sites into your EditMe site. It also provides a Page Widget that allows you export the content of any EditMe page as a widget for display in another web site. The User Pages module fills a specific need for teachers and other site administrators that need to create multiple users each with a private content page. Without this module, an administrator must create a user, a group, a policy and a page for each user. With this module, these tasks can be performed for multiple users with a single form post.
